Lesson 1

As for me I like watching good films very much. So I prefer spending my free time in the cinema. I can say that I go there quite often. Nowadays people'can watch a lot of films even at home because they have modern computers and the Internet. But it is more exciting to go to the cinema because there you can watch a film at a huge screen and special effects there are better. And I think that it is very important to be a very attentive spectator as you can learn much from everything you watch.
I think that every film contains a lot of extra information about the world and people. It is like an encyclopedia of life and people’s relationship.

Dan said that «Ukraine» is one of the best cinemas in Ukraine because there are two halls with modern technical equipment there — newest motion picture projectors, special sound-absorbing panels, new pearl screens, comfortable seats. There are three bars with the variety of traditional snacks and drinks in the foyer. And there is a comfortable summer terrace on the second floor.

There are many good cinemas in big cities in Ukraine but I want to tell you about my favourite one. It is Kronverk. Kronverk Cinema is world class: 7 rooms, big screens, sound, Dolby Digital Surround EX, modern film equipment, comfortable armchairs. I like visiting this place because there I can enjoy watching good films in comfortable atmosphere. You can imagine living in the world crested by actors or actresses and I like it very much.

Cinderella (2015)

A Film Review

Basic information. Cinderella (2015) is a romantic fantasy film directed by Keneth Branagh, screenplay written by Chris Weitz, produced by David Barron, Simon Kinberg and Allison Shearmur for Walt Disney Pictures. The film stars are Lily James as Ella ("Cinderella") Cate Blanchett as Lady Tremaine (the Stepmother), Richard Madden as Prince Charming, Sophie McShera as Drisella, Holliday Grainger as Anastasia and Helena Bonham Carter as the Fairy Godmother. The world premiere of Cinderella was on February 13, 2015, at the 65th Berlin International Film Festival. It was released on March 13, 2016.

Background to the story. The story of Cinderella follows the fortunes of young Ella whose merchant father remarries following the tragic death of her mother. Keen to support her loving father, Ella welcomes her new stepmother Lady Tremaine and her daughters Anastasia and Drisella into the family home. But, when Ella’s father died, she finds out that her new family is jealous and cruel. She is turned into a servant girl covered in ashes, and spitefully renamed Cinderella. But still Ella is determined to honor her mother’s dying words and to “have courage and be kind”. Then she meets the dashing stranger in the woods. Unaware that he is really a prince, Ella feels she has met a kindred soul. The Palace sends out an open invitation for all maidens to attend a ball but her stepmother forbids her to attend it. Only her Godmother's help lets Cinderella go to the ball and change her life forever.
Opinions. The film received generally positive critical reviews and earned over $474 million worldwide.

Recommendations. This film is worth seeing with the whole family.

Lesson 5

2. a) Work individually. Write down anything you don’t know about going to the theatre. You may want to think about the places to buy the tickets, the people who work at the theatre, etc.

Where do you what to sit, close to the stage or far from the stage or on the balcony?
What kind of play do you want to watch?
How many actors are better for the play, many or only a few?

3. Read the Internet pages A and B from London Theatre Guide quickly. Which kind of information do they provide you with?
The internet pages from London Theatre Guide provide us with the information about genre of the play, the author of the book the play based on, the director, producer and choreographer of the play, the composer and the author of lyrics. It also gives information about the plot of the story, date and time.

4. Find the following information in the theatre guides on pages 91-92.

My visit to the theatre

All my family like theatre very much but unfortunately we do not have enough time to visit it very often because my parents work and I go to school and we always have a lot of duties about the house. But when we have free time we go to the theatre with pleasure. Usually my mother buys tickets and it is a holiday for us when we all together go to the theatre. We like watching everything and I think that every play is unique.
Last month we went to the theatre to see the play «Romeo and Juliet*. Everybody knows the plot of this sad story but still it was a pleasure to see the actors and actresses love and die for it. Our seats were on the balcony so I could see everything very well. It was a wonderful performance. I enjoyed every minute of the play. The actors were really very good, especially the actress playing Juliet. Her dress was beautiful. I was impressed very much.

Last week our family went to see the play "Romeo and Juliet: in our local theatre. This play is new so the actors and actresses are not so famous but still very talented. They performed really great and the spectators were impressed very much. The scenery was bright and vivid. It was changed many times during the play. The costumes and the makeup of the participants were fantastic, so rich and light at the same time. It seems that they were dressed in air and their faces look natural. The actors’ and actresses’ play was remarkable. It seemed that they did not perform but live on stage. They put their soul in every word and every move. It looked really great. The people were pleased so after the performance they took many curtain calls. And the spectators liked the music very much as it was united with the play and seemed to be part of it. Everybody knows the plot of this story that Romeo and Juliet die in the end but still the final scene was unforgettable. Some people almost cried because they were moved. I liked this performance very much.

Nowadays there are a lot of modern up-to date cinemas in every city. Modern cinemas have constant popularity among viewers because they can entertain any spectator with new films which have special effects. They can get unforgettable impressions from watching modern blockbusters or thrillers as cinemas have up-to date sound systems, big screens and comfortable watch seats. Some famous cinemas take part in cinema festivals as Kiev or Odessa cinemas. Usually these events happen in summer and a lot of famous actors come to our country. For example, Killi from «The Hobbit» came to Odessa last summer. I like this Irish actor, Aidan Turner, very much. I hope he was impressed by our cinemas equipped with modern digital projectors.
